A little local history
Archaeological finds show that the area was settled in antiquity, and the parish church of St Nicholas, the patron of sailors, stands near the harbour. For centuries the population lived mainly in the hamlets on Biokovo's slopes and came down to the sea to fish; the coastal village developed in the 19th and 20th centuries, and tourism grew strongly from the 1960s.
