Why explore Vis by boat?
Vis is the furthest inhabited island from the Croatian mainland in central Dalmatia, and that distance is exactly why people come. The sea around it is unusually clear, the Blue Cave on nearby Biševo is one of the best-known sights in the Adriatic, and the island's bays remain quieter than those closer to shore.

What Vis is known for
Blue Cave, Biševo
A ticketed sea cave visited in its own small cave boats; rental boats wait outside.
Stiniva cove
A pebble beach behind a narrow gap in the cliffs on the southern coast.

A little local history
Greek settlers from Syracuse founded Issa on Vis in the 4th century BC, making it one of the oldest urban settlements in Croatia, and the island later became Roman. Its strategic position brought naval battles offshore in the 19th century, and in the Second World War Vis served as a base for the Partisan movement.
