Pag is a long, bare island with a coastline of unusual, almost lunar rock and a series of deep sheltered bays. The Pag channel is protected, the beaches around Novalja and the island's north are well known, and the mainland coast opposite is close enough for varied day trips.

A little local history
Salt made Pag important: the pans near Pag town have been worked since antiquity and were a valuable resource under Venetian rule, which is when the town was rebuilt to a planned Renaissance design. Sheep farming on the exposed karst produced the cheese the island is known for, and lace-making developed as a local craft with a long documented tradition.
