A little local history

Primošten was originally an island settlement, fortified with walls and towers in the 16th century as protection against Ottoman raids, and connected to the mainland by a drawbridge that was later replaced by the causeway — the name refers to that bridging. The dry-stone vineyard terraces around the town were built up over centuries of manual labour and remain one of the most striking cultivated landscapes on the coast.
