A little local history
Vodice takes its name from the wells that supplied fresh water to the settlement and to passing ships — a practical role that shaped the place for centuries. It was a fishing and farming village within the Venetian territory of Dalmatia, fortified in part against Ottoman raids, and remained small until the 20th century, when tourism transformed it into one of the region's main resort towns.
